Let's celebrate International Dance Day with a chance to help Ukraine!
By purchasing a ticket, you will help us support dance students from Ukraine.
We believe in the healing power of art, so this year's International Dance Day program on Friday, 29 April focuses on helping people who fled from the war to Prague.
In the public space in the centre of Prague on Václav Havel Square at 17:00 and 18:30 we have prepared for you an interactive audio performance for the body and mind – SILENT – by the Temporary Collective ensemble of Tereza Ondrová and Petra Tejnorová.
As part of International Dance Day, we are also presenting a popular contemporary dance lesson for the public at 19:00 at the PONEC Theatre, which will be led on this occasion by Ukrainian choreographer and teacher Yana Reutova.
The support is intended for two 14-year-old dance students from Ukraine. Anna and Diana arrived in Prague on 8 March with their teacher Yana Reutova from the Plastilin Dance Theatre in Chornomorsk.
Since then, they have been participating in the PONEC Theatre program, attending lessons at the Duncan Centre Conservatory and by 420PEOPLE and Lenka Vagnerová & Company, and participating in the Theatre and Dance in Dormitories project for people who, like them, have fled Ukraine. Yana received a scholarship from the Czech Centres for three months, but 14-year-old students do not have this opportunity. Thanks to everyone who is helping!
SILENT is an audio performance for a group of audience members in space that consists of movement/workout instructions for body throughout 35 minutes. The audio is started by one voice and continued by the next to create a series of voices that together develop one landscape of thought and movement.
The performance responds to the Covid-19 pandemic, its impact on the public space, on closed borders and the inability to travel, on exposed vulnerabilities of our bodies. How do we as individuals in such a world connect with each other? What does the body remember and what does it forget? Can we create new bonds? Can we experience closeness in such a world? How have our bodies changed in this time? The body in the main role – in the space between loneliness and sharing. Explore a new experience with us!
The project follows up on other activities of the international research project DANCING MUSEUMS, of which SILENT is a part. Partner of the project on Václav Havel Square is the National Theatre. In SILENT is used English.
