TANEC PRAHA, in cooperation with PQ2023, announces an Open Call for all artists involved in dance, acrobatic dance and puppetry who would like to become part of the creative process of Pietro Marullo's project WRECK – List of extinct species.

We are pleased to announce that Pietro Marullo has also accepted the invitation to this year's TANEC PRAHA Festival and the Prague Quadrennial, and will create a new version of his work WRECK – List of extinct species as part of them. This will lead to projects connecting the local art scene with foreign and various art disciplines.
Pietro Marullo is looking for at least four local artists with a high technical level, improvisation skills and ability to work in a group dynamic, to take part in a very creative process.
The process proposed is to attend an intense one-week workshop/rehearsal. Day by day, the crew will experiment with the link between manipulation and movement, through technical exercises and improvisations: body-body, body-object. This process will lead to the creation of this new version of the show.

About the performance:

WRECK – List of extinct species is an interdisciplinary performance mixing manipulation, dance, sound and visual art.

A huge black, plastic, inflatable pillow-like object moves across the stage, like a predator hunting its prey. Around it move the dancers, human figures that the mysterious object swallows and spits back out.

The main question of the show is what we become when we must face an external issue bigger than ourselves?

In this surreal world the abstract object has power. Is it an allegory of undersea legendary monsters of bygone tales? Or is it a metaphor for global capitalism, our scourge on the natural world, or the human condition itself? It provokes and amplifies our imagination, asking us to impose our own interpretations.

Described as an "elastic performance", WRECK can be shown indoors or outdoors and can be adapted to space-specific conditions.

About Pietro Marullo:

PIETRO MARULLO is an Italian artist based in Brussels, where he founded the INSIEME IRREALI Company, supported by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. His interdisciplinary work lies at the intersection of visual and performing art, installation and new technologies, deeply focused on social, historical and anthropological topics. His works are presented on four continents, at important dance festivals, performing arts festivals, theatres, music networks and puppet-object and contemporary art platforms such as: Festival OrienteOccidente, Seoul International Dance Festival, José Limon Dance Festival, Danse Elargie/Théâtre de la Ville, Beijing Dance Festival, National Italian Dance Platform.

Since 2015, Pietro has been developing an anthropologic and aesthetic reflection about the links between reality and symbolic languages.

This approach engages him to create an "imagination of the species", a philosophical statement that should lead our societies to face their own histories and common global issues from the larger point of view of the species.
