Orchestr BERG
BERG Orchestra is one of the leading Czech music ensembles with a specific mission of promoting new music and attracting new audiences to it. It also mixes music with other arts like dance, theatre, film etc. The orchestra performs not only at regular concert halls but is constantly searching for new spaces for contemporary music. So far it has performed more than two hundred new works in world premieres commissioned primarily with the very best young Czech composers and gave even many more Czech premieres of works by internationally renowned composers (new staging of Black on White by Goebbels, An Index of Metals by Romitelli, in vain by Haas, Poeme symphonique by Ligeti, Quatre chants by Gérard Grisey etc.). In 2021 it won the prestigious Prix Italia for its inventive Music for Sirens series.
Jana Vöröšová (*1980) studied composition at the Prague Conservatoire and at the Academy of Musíc in Prague. She participated in a student exchange at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels and was awarded a residency in Paris organised by SACEM. In 2018, she won the composition competition of the Czech Philharmonic, and has also received two main prizes in the nuBERG awards (2007 and 2009). Her works are performed at festivals in Czechia (Prague Spring, Contempuls, Forfest…) and abroad (Présences or Wien Modern among many others). She collaborates with orchestras and ensembles both home and abroad (BERG Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orhcestra, Brno Contemporary Orchestra, Konvergence, Klangforum Wien, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble etc.). She teaches at the Duncan Centre Conservatoire and culture association Roztoč. She is a co-founder of Tušení, a society that organises culture education activities, concerts, performances, exhibitions, and workshops. She directs music creativity courses and seminars for children and adults, aimed at creating unusual sonic landscapes.
