Jiří Havelka was born on June 17, 1980 in Jihlava. Theatre director, playwright, actor and TV moderator, he was also one of the initiators of the TV channel O, today called Óčko. Furthermore, he is one of the founders of the civic association JSAF which organizes the International Festival of Documentary Films in Jihlava. He also launched the tradition of Cute Drama held every year on November 17 in Studio Ypsilon.
He majored in Directing alternative and puppet theatre at the Theatre Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). Still as a student at grammar school he co-founded a theatre community HOBIT. Later, already as a student of the academy, he started performing and directing at the chamber venue of Studio Ypsilon. He is one of the members of the cabaret theatre group VOSTO5, a body reputed for their open and original theatre forms based on improvisation.
In 2007 he was awarded Alfréd Radok Award as Talent of the Year.
