Toujours de 3/4 face!

A humorous tutorial of self-defence.

The Belgian dancer and choreographer Loraine Dambermont says that she creates “hyperenergetic works.” That is exactly what TOUJOURS DE 3/4 FACE! is. Behind its energy and humour, it hides its true nature of being a tutorial of how to protect oneself from the violence waiting in contemporary society.

The karate stance in a ¾ angle is, according to Johnny Cadilac, one of the most effective defensive techniques. His voice guides us through the entire performance and it is amusing that the story of a rocker and karate legend is embodied by a woman. Dynamic kicks, jumps and punches, a strong physique, bottomless resources of energy, and endurance all destroy expectations about how a dancer moves.

Lorraine Dambermont has a unique and energetic style, which will literally “give you a kick.”

The performance is a part of the international festival TANEC PRAHA 2025.

The Belgian dancer and choreographer Loraine Dambermont created her own style after her studies at Codarts Rotterdam and Teaterschool Amsterdam. Thanks to the combination of various techniques from hip-hop to contemporary dance, including popping and floor work, she creates explosive energy.

In 2013 she won an award for Buy My City, which was a milestone in her career (co-creator: Noora Hannula). As performer she was work with many names: The Nordic  Beasts and Mute Comp. Physical theater (DK), Michèle Anne De Mey (BE), Itamar Serussi (IL), Beppie Blankert (NL), Etienne Rochefort (FR), Zahrbat / Brahim Bouchelaghem (FR), Leslie Mannes (BE).

Alongside her expansive tour of her first solo piece Toujours de 3/4 face! (selected for the Aerowaves Spring Forward 2023), she is working on a new piece called T'FAÇON ON EST EN 2012 which will be premiered in October of 2025 in the Théâtre de Liège during the bienále Charleroi Danse.

MEGASTRUCTURE

SARAH BALTZINGER and ISAIAH WILSON refuged themselves in an off-grid residency in ireland away from any distractions and people. in a cottage without internet connection and no outside influence, the two artists had time to fully immerse themselves in the creation of this sentimental duet.

MEGASTRUCTURE seeks to distance itself from the violent overexposure of the world and the alienation that comes with it to go back to something timeless. the isolation forced them to take a non filtered approach that helped them to radically take choices that they wouldn’t have made in an other, more busy, environment.

This duet is like a puzzle whose pieces are constantly being dismantled, searched for, tested and reinvented. MEGASTRUCTURE is a choreographic piece without sound composition, without decor, whose natural musicality is generated by the bodies on stage in a percussive energy.

In 2022, Sarah Baltzinger and Isaiah Wil- son began co-directing several projects, including the duet MEGASTRUCTURE. InJune 2023, they won a number of awar- ds during the famous competition RIDCC (Rotterdam International Duet Choreo- graphic Competition). The two artists won the XL Production Award, which will lead them to create a production for Sca- pino Ballet Rotterdam in February 2025 called GOATS, with an international tour of 30 performances. In addition, they won four partner awards with Nederlands Dans Theater, Skånes Dansteater, Sally Dansgezelschap Masstricht, MAAS Thea- ter En Dans. They will work with Neder- lands Dans Theater through workshops,laboratories and first projects of creation from 2024 onwards. The same year, they became Aerowaves Twenty24 artists with MEGASTRUCTURE and will perform at Spring Forward Festival.
